FWC Announces Wage Review

The new minimum hourly wage will be $19.84 per hour (or $753.80 per week).

This constitutes an increase of 35 cents per hour or $13.00 per week.

Normally, such an increase would commence across the board on 1 July. However, given the impact of COVID-19, the FWC has decided to stagger the commencement of the wage increase for those industries particularly affected by the pandemic.

For workers not covered by an award or agreement, the increase will commence on 1 July 2020.

For workers covered by:

  • Group 1 Awards, being those industries least affected by COVID-19, the increase will commence on 1 July 2020. This group includes, for example, the Nurses, Aged Care and Ambulance Awards.

  • Group 2 Awards, the increase will commence on 1 November 2020.

  • Group 3 Awards, being those industries most affected by COVID-19, the increase will commence on 1 February 2021. This group includes, for example, the Restaurant, Fast Food, Hospitality and Amusement Awards.
