Wage Increase as of July 2016

The Commission cited decreases in unemployment and underemployment, and referenced the effect that a pay increase might have on the gender pay gap in arriving at its decision to increase the minimum wage.

The increases which will operate from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2016 are:

  • wages under all modern awards are increased by 2.4%; and
  • the minimum wage will increase to $672.70 per week (or $17.70 per hour).

Employees paid in line with (or wages close to) the minimum rates of pay under an Award will therefore be entitled to a higher rate of pay as of July 2016.
