Joanna Alexis

Associate

Joanna Alexis is an associate in Cowell Clarke’s Property practice group. Joanna believes that communication, attention to detail and understanding a client's needs are the keys to providing the most commercial and personalised legal advice.

With previous experience in construction, environment and planning and property law, Joanna has an appreciation and understanding of the overall lifecycle of property development.

Joanna works in both the commercial leasing and development spaces. This includes advising both landlords and tenants in respect of retail, commercial and industrial leases, advising on commercial sale and purchase contracts including options agreements, assisting in land divisions/amalgamations, advising on easement and encumbrance issues and undertaking property related due diligence.

Joanna often works across multiple jurisdictions for some of our larger clients (with a focus on large retail shopping precincts). She has also acted for both Local and State Government authorities in respect of property acquisition, planning issues and leasing, and for both local, national and international property developers in respect of residential house and land developments and large commercial multi-tenant sites.

Joanna is also heavily involved in developing, implementing and maintaining software solutions for our property clients to help them stay technologically relevant and improve efficiency, communication and asset management, and also to help Cowell Clarke to better service their clients, including across different jurisdictions. Joanna is a member of Women's Legal Service Inc (SA), a not-for-profit association that provides pro-bono legal assistance.  Joanna joined Cowell Clarke in 2016, having previously worked in another commercial law firm.  She was admitted to practice in Victoria and South Australia in 2011 and then into the High Court of Australia in 2013. Joanna also has a Masters of Law, specialising in commercial drafting, negotiation and advanced contracts.
