Congratulations to the winners of the Cowell Clarke Client Interviewing Competition 2015, Joseph Hyde and Geeta Sidhu.
The award was presented by Cowell Clarke Special Counsel, Rod Lindquist, at the Annual Flinders Law School Prize-giving Ceremony on Tuesday 10 May 2016.
Offered in conjunction with the Flinders Law Students' Association, the Cowell Clarke Client Interviewing Competition provides law students with insight into the role of lawyers in understanding and advising clients. Each competitor is provided with a client brief, before they interview the client for 30 minutes. They take on the role of a law firm partner, meeting with a client to understand their situation and discuss potential avenues for them to resolve their issues, along with the pros and cons of each option.
The competition provides an opportunity for students to apply their academic learning to a ‘close to’ real life situation, addressing issues required under the Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules and the process of engaging and advising a client.
The competition aligns with the philosophy of Cowell Clarke’s founders; Brett Cowell and Jon Clarke. Leaving a large, corporate law firm to set up Cowell Clarke in 1989, they wanted a rapid response, switched on corporate/commercial law firm that offered its clients technical expertise, commercial understanding, complete reliability and the full attention of the directors. The prize provides an avenue to support the firm’s philosophy where client focus drives results.
